Australia cancels visas of 15,066 students for violation of rules

MELBOURNE: Australian authorities have canceled 15,066 student visas for foreigners, including Indians, for breach of visa conditions, Times of India quoted reports.The local immigration department has canceled 15,066 visas for foreign students in the last year, up 37 percent from the previous year.
About 3624 students facing deportation of subjects failing or missing classes and more visas were canceled in 2235 students leaving their original courses were working illegally in some cases in the brothels, reported The Daily Telegraph.
The report said students in India have been most affected, while the Chinese students did better, as they were less likely to be studying for a trade.
Under the new rules, graduates of the University shall have the right to work here for two years after graduating, leaving the vocational students to wait a second set of reforms, due next year, to know what to expect.
Of the 332,709 international students in Australia, in June, more than half were studying at university, while a third is training visas to study the diploma courses.
The report notes that one in five is Chinese international students, while one in six is India. Most international students were placed in New South Wales and Victoria.
To receive a student visa must be enrolled in a course and prove they can pay tuition and living costs and comply with health testing and English language.
Immigration Department offers eight types of student visas - including vocational training, university courses in English or visas of schooling.
The department's annual report said 8309 student visa holders became "illegal" in the last year because his student visa expired and not to request a new one, as a bridging visa.
In some cases, foreigners were not students and the actual use of the labor rights of a student visa as a backdoor for higher wages and working conditions in Australia.
Some women have come to Australia on student visas to work in illegal brothels.
